Here comes help for your Monday blahs!!
I love looking through old cookbooks. The recipes are easy and generally thrifty. In a 1976 cookbook, I found a recipe for Orange Frosting and thought it would be tasty on a dark chocolate cake. I was right…it is delicious!!!
Whenever I make a vintage recipe, of course I have to use vintage dishes, so I put mine on a milk glass cake stand.
Here is little a step by step slide show, but I also list the recipe below. As you will see at the end, I’m not much of a cake decorator, but the cake sure tasted good!!
I hope you will try this recipe and let me know if you like it!
Orange Frosting 1976 Recipe
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/3 cup orange juice
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons grated orange peel
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
Few drops red and yellow food coloring
Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Gradually add orange and lemon juices. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil. Boil 1 minute. Stir in orange peel and 1 tablespoon butter. Let cool. Cream butter until light and fluffy. Add powdered sugar, alternating with orange mixture. Beat until smooth. Blend in food coloring.
